Baked apple donuts

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 30 g butter
  • 2 m.-sized apples
  • 260 g spelt flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 150 g sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 180 ml buttermilk

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 45 minutes

Melt the butter and let it cool. Preheat the oven to 220°C (top/bottom heat). Mix the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Add the buttermilk, eggs, and melted butter and mix well. Peel and core the apples, and cut them into thin slices. Spoon some batter into the donut cups, place the apple slices on top, and fill them 2/3 full with batter. Reduce the oven temperature to 190°C (375°F). Bake the donuts for about 20 minutes until golden brown. Remove the baking sheet and let the donuts cool slightly in the pan, then cool completely on a wire rack. Tips: Dust the donuts with powdered sugar to serve. They also taste great with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream.
