Baked mozzarella tomatoes

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 4 large beefsteak tomatoes
  • 2 balls of mozzarella
  • 4 onions
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • Salt
  • Pepper, freshly ground
  • 6 tbsp oil (olive oil)
  • 1 tsp thyme, dried

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Lightly grease an ovenproof dish with oil. Preheat the oven to 220°C. Wash and dry the tomatoes, then slice them with the cheese into approximately 1 cm thick slices. Peel and finely dice the onions and garlic clove. Heat 4 tablespoons of olive oil in a pan and sauté the onions and garlic for a few minutes until translucent. Season generously with pepper, salt, and thyme. Layer the tomato slices in the ovenproof dish in a shingle-like layer. Spread the onion and garlic mixture over the slices. Arrange the cheese slices on top and bake in the preheated oven on the middle rack for 25 minutes.
