Bean mash with bratwurst

Ingredients for 5 servings:

  • 400 g bratwurst, coarse
  • 1 kg potatoes
  • 2 large onions
  • 200 g bacon cubes
  • 500 g green beans
  • 200 ml milk
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 tsp vegetable stock powder
  • Olive oil for frying
  • e.g. parsley

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour

North German variant

Peel the potatoes and place them in boiling salted water for about 20 minutes until tender. Cooking time depends on the size of the potatoes. Add the peeled beans to boiling water and 2 teaspoons of vegetable stock powder, then cook for about 15 minutes. Finely chop the onions and fry them in a pan with a little olive oil until translucent. Fry the ham cubes until slightly crispy. Mash the potatoes and mix well with the milk. Mix the mashed potatoes with the beans, ham cubes, and onions, and season with salt and pepper. Peel the skin off the coarsely chopped sausages and fry the sausages until lightly browned. Serve on plates and garnish with parsley if desired. Approx. 605 kcal per serving.
