Belgian meatballs with cherries

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 500 g minced meat
  • 1 egg(s)
  • Breadcrumbs
  • salt and pepper
  • nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 jar morello cherries, pitted
  • possibly sugar

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Ballets with Krieken

Mix the ground beef with the egg, some breadcrumbs, pepper, salt, and nutmeg. Form ping-pong-sized balls. Bring plenty of water to a boil and cook the balls for 8 minutes. Drain and fry in a pan until browned. Deglaze the pan with the cherry juice and stir in the cornstarch. Then warm the morello cherries. I couldn’t imagine it at first, but it tastes absolutely delicious! Serve with white bread dipped in the cherry sauce. For kids, add a little sugar to the morello cherries.
