How Long to Cook Potatoes in the Jacket and How to Cook Them in the Oven: A Simple Recipe

The jacket potato is one of the easiest and most hearty side dishes to prepare with meat or fish. However, the taste of potatoes depends not only on the variety but also on proper cooking.

Next, you need to pour water over the potatoes so that the liquid completely covers the tubers. Then add salt, about 0.5 tbsp. per 1lt. of water. Then cover the pot with a lid and put it on high heat.

Answering the question about how long to cook potatoes in a jacket, we say – it depends on the age of the root crop:

  • old – 30 minutes;
  • young – 15 minutes.

On average, until fully cooked, potatoes in a jacket cook for 20-25 minutes. To check whether the cooking process is over, pierce the potatoes with a fork or knife – a soft tuber is ready to eat.

  • potatoes – 600 gr;
  • vegetable oil – 30-40 ml (to grease tubers and baking pan);
  • rosemary – 1-2 sprigs;
  • garlic – 2-3 cloves
  • salt, pepper, and other spices – to taste.

Wash the potatoes under running water, and dry them with paper towels or napkins. Squeeze garlic in vegetable oil then coats each tuber. Cover a baking tray with foil and grease with vegetable oil. Place the potatoes so that the tubers do not touch each other.

Preheat the oven to 180-200°C, bake the potatoes for 20 minutes, then turn them to the other side and bake for another 20 minutes. Remember that the total baking time depends on the variety and age of the root vegetables.

Useful tip: 10 minutes before the end of cooking sprinkle the potatoes with sea salt, rosemary, and spices, then you will have a flavorful and tasty side dish.
