Vinaigrette to Be: How to Boil Beets Quickly

Beets don’t like to boil – you spend half a day with them, and then you have to clean the pot. So sometimes healthy salads like vinaigrette or beets with onions are relegated to the back burner.

How to properly boil beets – preparation

For cooking, it is better to take medium-sized vegetables – they should be without rot and damage, dark red color.

Before boiling, thoroughly wash the beets, cut off the tops, and shorten the tail.

You do not need to peel the beets – if you remove the skin, the juice will leak out of the vegetable, the beets will become pale and tasteless, and lose vitamins.

How to boil beets in a pot – a classic in 2 hours

Put beets in a pot, and pour cold water – it should completely cover the vegetables.

You can not salt the water – salt will make the beets harder and slow down the process of cooking.

Boil the beets on medium heat. When the water boils, turn down the heat, cover the pot with a lid, and leave for a couple of hours. Check readiness with a fork – if the beets pierce easily, then they are ready.

How to cook beets in the microwave in 10-20 minutes

The cooking time for beets in the microwave depends on two factors: the size of the vegetable and the power of the microwave.

In microwaves with a power of 1000 watts or higher, the beets will be ready in 8-10 minutes. In a less powerful one, cooking may take up to 20 minutes.

Put the beets in a glass dish, pour 3 tbsp of water on the bottom, and cover with a glass lid (or other suitable for microwaves).

You can do it another way: put the beets in a baking sleeve and tie it tightly.

How to cook beets in the multicooker – 40 minutes-1.5 hours

You can cook beets in the multicooker on different programs (depending on the model of the multicooker).

  • Program “Steaming” – 40 minutes

Wash the beets, and put them on the grid for steaming. Pour a glass of water into the bottom of the bowl. Seal and steam the beets and turn on the steam cooker.

  • The program “Stew” or “Boil” – for 1-1,5 hours

Put washed beets in a bowl of a multicooker, pour water, and turn on the program “Stew” or “Boil” (“Soup”). Check after an hour – if the beets are not ready, turn on the same mode for another 20-30 minutes.

  • Program “Baking” – 1 hour

Wash and dry beets and wrap them in oiled foil. Put into a bowl, and cook in “Baking” mode.
