Preserving mirabelle plums: the preparation
Before you get to the essentials, you need a few ingredients and utensils:
- 500 milliliters of water
- 150 grams of sugar
- 600 grams Mirabelle plums – These should be ripe, but not overripe.
- Screw-top jars should be sterilized before use
Preserving: made easy
When you have all the ingredients and utensils together, you can start cooking.
- First, fill a large pot with water and let it boil. Once it boils, you can add the sugar. Stir this so that it dissolves in the water.
- Let the water and sugar cool down to about room temperature.
- To prepare the mirabelle plums, the stalks of the fruit and mold are first removed.
- Then wash the mirabelle plums and fill them into the glasses. It is important that you try to get as many fruits into the glass as possible.
- Now fill the glasses with the sugar solution, leaving about 2 centimeters of space at the rim. Close the jars with their lids.
- Next, place a cloth in a large pot, which you then fill with water so that the glasses later stand halfway in the water.
- Now put your glasses in the pot. The cloth prevents them from hitting each other.
- As soon as the water starts to boil, the Mirabelle plum jars have to boil for half an hour.
- After the time has elapsed, you can remove the glasses from the pot and let them cool down.
