Braided hot dog

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 roll of (to taste) dough from the refrigerated section
  • 8 sausages, hotdog or wiener as desired
  • 2 tbsp mustard, medium hot or hotter
  • 4 tbsp ketchup
  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise or hot dog sauce
  • 3 slices of cheese
  • ½ small jar of gherkins, preferably sliced
  • 1 large egg(s), beaten
  • some fried onions as desired

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 35 minutes

Spread out the puff pastry and place the sausages in the middle, so that four are next to each other, with the remaining sausages on top. Then spread the sausages thickly with mustard, ketchup, and mayo and arrange the cheese on top. Next, add as many or as few gherkins as you like. The final layer is a layer of crispy fried onions. Cut diagonally into the excess puff pastry on both sides at equal distances to form strips of pastry. Fold the strips of pastry alternately over the filling to create a braided look. Don’t forget to close the ends! Before baking, brush the pastry with the beaten egg and sprinkle on more fried onions. Then bake it in the oven for 20 minutes at 190°C (fan oven). Cut the braided loaf into thick slices and serve warm. A small salad goes perfectly with it.
