Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 3 onions
  • 4 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 50 ml white wine
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 35 minutes

Peel the onions, slice into rings, season lightly with salt, and sauté in the oil over low heat until soft and golden yellow to golden brown. Stir in the sugar, deglaze with the white wine, and bring to a boil. Season with pepper and add more salt if desired. Alternatively, apple juice can be used instead of the white wine. Braised onions taste great with pan-fried meats like roast beef or rump steak.
