Braised onions with a shot

Ingredients for 8 servings:

  • 6 large onions
  • some salt and pepper
  • 10 ml sherry or port wine
  • 2 tsp honey
  • n. B. Thyme leaves

Instructions

Working time approx. 5 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes

Peel and halve the onions, then slice them into approximately 3 mm thick slices. Fry them in a non-stick pan with oil until the onions are nicely browned. Season with salt and pepper and add the port or sherry. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 5 minutes. Finally, add the honey and a few torn thyme leaves, if desired, and simmer for another 5 minutes. Add a little water if needed. These braised onions go well with burgers, grilled dishes, or cheese spaetzle.
