classic turkey stuffing for Thanksgiving
Dry the bread cubes in the oven at low heat (approx. 120°C). Melt the butter in a pan and sauté the onion, add the celery, and sauté for another 5 minutes. Repeat with the apple pieces and finally mix in the chestnuts, bread cubes, and herbs. Season to taste, as you want the mixture to blend harmoniously. Now let the mixture cool. Shortly before stuffing the turkey, add 125 ml of apple juice to the stuffing. Do not overstuff the turkey, as the stuffing will expand. We always bake the stuffing separately in a casserole dish: To do this, spread knobs of butter over the surface and pour in the remaining apple juice. Bake, covered, at 190°C for 30 minutes. Remove the lid after 15 minutes.
