Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour
Wash the schnitzel and pat dry, season with salt, pepper, cumin, and chili powder. Coat in flour, then dip in the egg beaten with a fork, and finally coat with the tzatziki chips previously crushed in the packet. For the sauce, slice the onions into half rings, finely chop the garlic, and finely chop the chili. Fry everything together in a hot pan with a little oil. Stir in the tomato paste and fry briefly. Stir in 1 teaspoon of thyme, 1 teaspoon of cumin, half a teaspoon of chili powder, a pinch of cinnamon, half a teaspoon of cayenne pepper, and a teaspoon of oregano, and fry briefly. Add the mushrooms and fry briefly. Deglaze with 40 ml of Metaxa, then add half a pack of passata and a cup of cream, and mix everything together. Add a splash of Piri-Piri and stir in the remaining Metaxa. Simmer on low heat for at least 20 minutes. Add water if the sauce becomes too thick. Season again with salt and pepper. Meanwhile, fry the schnitzels in fat or oil. Serve with fries or potato wedges, baguette, and tzatziki.
