Buttermilk scones

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 55 g butter (cold and cut into small pieces)
  • 300 g flour
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 40 g brown sugar
  • 300 ml buttermilk
  • Flour for dusting
  • Butter for greasing
  • Whipped cream (stiffened)
  • Jam (strawberry or raspberry jam)

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes

Preheat the oven to 220°C. Grease a baking sheet. Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt into a bowl and knead with the butter until crumbly. Then add the sugar and buttermilk and mix everything well. Knead the mixture lightly on a floured surface and then roll out to a thickness of about 2.5 cm. Using a fluted cutter (about 6 cm in diameter), cut out the scones and place them on the prepared baking sheet (not too tightly, as the scones will still rise). Knead the leftovers again, roll out again, and cut out until there is no more dough left. Brush the scones with milk and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, until they have risen and are golden yellow. Transfer to a wire rack to cool. Cut in half and serve with whipped cream and jam! Serve with fresh strawberries during strawberry season!
