Peel the apples and cut them into slices or cubes. Heat the coconut oil in a pan and add the apples. Stir for about 2 minutes. Then add the coconut flakes and finally the apple syrup (agave syrup can be used alternatively, and honey if it’s not vegan-friendly). Stir well and fry for another 5 minutes. Finally, add cinnamon or speculaas spice if desired (it tastes good without spices too). The caramelized apples are delicious with game, for example, or on their own as a dessert. As a dessert, they taste great with chocolate ice cream, cinnamon ice cream (don’t add cinnamon in that case, of course), vanilla ice cream, as a filling for pancakes/cream pancakes, or with yogurt or quark. Tip: This is a great way to use up leftovers such as shriveled, old apples or apples that you’ll have to cut up anyway.
