Casserole with Beetroot Indian Style
The perfect casserole with beetroot indian style recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.
Spices
- 2 Onions
- 4 Potatoes
- Pepper from the grinder
- Salt
- 2 Dried chilli pepper
- 4 Cardamom pod
- 0,5 tsp Ground cumin
- 2 pinch Ground turmeric spice
- 0,5 tsp Ground coriander
- 0,5 tsp Garam masala
- Oil
- 3 tbsp Yogurt
Note on the quantity ratio
- The proportions of potatoes, onions and beetroot should be roughly the same.
Prepare vegetables
- Peel and roughly dice the potatoes & onions. Peel the beetroot with a vegetable peeler (preferably with 1x gloves and over the sink as a precaution) and also dice. Make sure that the beetroot has no contact with the other vegetables so that it does not rub off.
Spice up
- 3rd casserole dish: Spread plenty of the spices + oil + yoghurt on the vegetables. I recommend not to crumble / cut the dried chillies or similar, as well as to crush the cardamom pods with the broad side of the knife so that they open easily. Make a note of the number of chillies & cardamom pods used so that you don’t accidentally bite them later and can search for and sort them out beforehand.

- Using your hands (don’t forget your gloves), first mix the potatoes & onions with the spices. In a second step, do the same with the beetroot. Then mix everything together so that the spices can distribute evenly. The step-by-step procedure apparently had the side effect that the beetroot did not stain or the potatoes & onions became “color-resistant”.
Feta
- Finally, dice the feta or crumble it with your hands and distribute it.
oven
- Cook everything on the middle shelf at approx. 160 ° C. The cooking time also varies depending on how thick / big the vegetable pieces are. If the feta is already golden brown, but the vegetables are not yet soft, simply place a sheet of aluminum foil loosely on the casserole.

- This recipe was created during a creative phase in my “test kitchen”, which is why the quantities on the pictures differ greatly from the information given. In the event that it didn’t taste good, I just didn’t want to have to throw away a lot of food unnecessarily.
