effects of chamomile tea
A distinction is made between real chamomile and Roman chamomile. The latter contains essential oil, which is also said to have an anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic effect. However, the effect is less than that of real chamomile. The chamomile blossoms are used, which, in addition to the oils, consist of the substances a-bisabolol, matricin, flavonoids, apigenin, and quercetin as well as coumarins.
- Chamomile relieves various gastrointestinal complaints. The a-bisabolol inhibits the release of the digestive enzyme pepsin in the stomach.
- Discomfort in the abdominal area and digestive tracts, such as loss of appetite or digestive and menstrual problems can be alleviated by chamomile. The ingredients are antispasmodic and relieve flatulence.
- Chamomile also has an anti-inflammatory effect. For mouth sores, use the tea several times a day as a mouthwash.
side effects of tea
If you accidentally ingest contaminated types of chamomile, such as dog chamomile, or confuse real chamomile with daisy family, this can lead to skin irritation, among other things.
- Caution: Do not consume chamomile tea in excess for long periods of time. The low concentration of pyrrolizidine alkaloids can have a mutagenic side effect if the dosage is too high.
- Make sure that the tea infusion does not come into contact with the eye area. The smallest particles and ingredients could cause irritation and eye inflammation.
- Interactions with other drugs are not known.
