Cheddar Scones

The perfect cheddar scones recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 100 ml Buttermilk
  • 1 Egg
  • 250 g Flour
  • 2 tsp Baking powder
  • 2,5 g Baking soda
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 0,5 tsp Salt
  • 125 g Cold butter
  • 150 g Cheddar cheese
  • 2 tsp Chopped sage
  1. Preheat the oven to 200 ° C. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk the milk and egg together. Mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar and salt. Add the butter in pieces to the flour. Knead into a crumbly dough with your fingertips. Briefly stir in the buttermilk and egg mix.
  3. Coarsely grate the cheese. Wash the sage, shake dry, pluck the leaves off and chop. Mix about 2⁄3 of each cheese and sage into the dough. Shape into a ball and press into a circle (approx. 18 cm Ø) on a floured work surface or a baking mat. Then cut into 16 pieces of cake. Place the cake pieces on the baking tray with a little distance from each other, sprinkle with the rest of the sage and cheese and bake in the hot oven for about 15 minutes. Take out and let cool down a bit. Taste lukewarm best.
