Cheese and ham casserole

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 8 slices of toast
  • 200 g cheese (medium-aged Gouda)
  • 150 g cooked ham
  • 350 g mushrooms, fresh
  • some butter or margarine for the mold
  • 3 m.-sized eggs
  • ½ liter of milk
  • some salt and pepper, white
  • nutmeg
  • 30 g butter flakes

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 45 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 15 minutes

Cut the toast, cheese, and ham into cubes. Trim and thinly slice the mushrooms. Grease a medium-high casserole dish. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) using conventional heating. Crack the eggs into a bowl, mix with the milk, and season with salt, white pepper, and nutmeg. Place the toast, cheese, mushrooms, and ham into the casserole dish. Pour the milk and egg mixture over the bread. Stir thoroughly, then add the butter in small pieces. Bake in the lower third of the oven for about 45 minutes until golden brown. Serve with a mixed salad and a semi-dry white wine.
