crispy sandwiches without a sandwich toaster

Mix the room-temperature butter or margarine with the tomato paste and salt. Spread the toast slices thinly with the tomato butter. Wash and dry the herbs. Top the sandwiches with the remaining ingredients and assemble them. It’s important that the greased sides of the sandwiches face outward, leaving only the cheese and wild herbs in the middle. Heat a dry pan. When the pan is hot, reduce the heat slightly and fry the sandwiches on both sides. Variations with onions, tomatoes, peppers, sausage, or similar ingredients are also possible.
