Cheese bread hedgehogs – hearty and original

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 loaf(s) (sourdough bread)
  • 300 g cheese
  • 2 spring onions
  • ½ bell pepper(s)
  • 125 g ham, diced
  • ½ cup butter
  • 2 tsp poppy seeds

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Cut a loaf of sourdough bread in half, lattice-like, but not all the way through. When viewed from above, this creates a checkered pattern. Dice half a bell pepper, chop the spring onion, and slice the cheese. Melt the butter in a hot water bath. Place the ham cubes, bell pepper, and spring onion into the resulting spaces in the bread. Add the cheese strips. Mix 2 teaspoons of poppy seeds with the melted butter. Spread the poppy seed butter on the filled loaf. Wrap the bread hedgehog in aluminum foil and bake in the oven at 180°C for 15 minutes. Remove the aluminum foil and bake for another 10 minutes.
