The strawberry-shaped, up to 15 cm tall cherimoya (also called anome, cream, or Jamaican apple) is one of the finest fruits in the world and has a unique aroma. Their soft green shell has a scale pattern. The large, dark seeds embedded in them are not edible and should definitely be removed.
Origin
Spain, Ecuador, Peru, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Egypt.
Taste
Underneath you will find the creamy sweet flesh in a creamy white colour.
Use
Because of the fine aroma, cherimoyas are best eaten raw. It is a good idea to spoon the fruit straight out of the halved and deseeded peel. You can also enjoy the creamy pulp with liqueur, brandy or lemon juice in ice cream and desserts.
Storage
Unripe fruits should continue to ripen at room temperature. Ripe fruits with a brown discoloration should be eaten quickly. They can only be kept refrigerated for a short time. The seeded pulp can be stored frozen for later use.
