Spread the love

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 1 kg chicken drumstick(s), thick
  • 1 onion(s)
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 200 g brown sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 80 g tomato ketchup
  • 3 tbsp vinegar
  • 2 tsp mustard
  • 3 dashes Worcestershire sauce
  • n. B. Pepper, white, ground

Instructions

Working time approx. 5 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

This BBQ sauce tastes great even without chicken and is quick to make. It’s perfect for anyone who’s tired of ready-made sauces.

For the sauce: Peel the onion, dice it, and fry it in a pan with the oil. Add all the remaining ingredients and gently bring to a boil. Stir occasionally until the sugar has dissolved, then simmer for a while longer. Be careful when seasoning: the sauce will be very hot due to the liquid sugar; risk of burning! The BBQ sauce is now ready and will keep for several weeks in a clean jar in the refrigerator. Brush the chicken pieces with the sauce and roast in a large casserole dish or on a baking sheet in the oven at 200°C for about 15 minutes until crispy. You can also grill it, of course. Brush it again with the sauce while grilling. We like to eat the sauce like ketchup with barbecues. It’s wonderfully sweet and spicy, but lacks that horrible artificial smoky flavor and acidity that ready-made sauces always have. This recipe, however, originally comes from the USA and was used there for chicken pieces. I use chicken drumsticks because they are not as dry as chicken breast fillet and have more meat than chicken wings.
