Chinese Honey Chicken

Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 2 chickens, cut into pieces or
  • 8 legs, whole chicken legs
  • Salt
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 piece(s) ginger, approx. 3 cm
  • 1 tsp spice mix (Chinese spice)
  • 5 tbsp soy sauce, dark
  • 5 tbsp rice wine, alternatively dry sherry
  • 8 tbsp honey, liquid
  • 200 ml water
  • 3 tbsp oil, for the baking sheet
  • 3 tbsp oil (sesame oil), roasted

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Rinse the chicken pieces in cold water, pat dry with kitchen paper, and rub with salt. Peel the garlic and ginger, chop very finely, and mix with the Chinese spice, soy sauce, and sherry. Bring the honey and water to a boil in a small saucepan and stir in the mixture. Brush the chicken pieces all over with the marinade and marinate in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Line the oven tray with aluminum foil and brush with oil. Place the chicken pieces on the foil and roast for 45 minutes, brushing them with sesame oil and turning them occasionally.
