Christmas chutney

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 450 g apples (cooking apples), peeled, cored, roughly chopped
  • 500 g dried fruit
  • 1 orange(s), untreated, grated peel
  • 150 ml vinegar (cider vinegar)
  • 350 g sugar, light brown
  • 1 tsp allspice seeds
  • 1 stalk(s) cinnamon
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 1 tsp nutmeg, grated
  • 1 tsp ginger powder

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Grind the allspice, cinnamon, and cloves to a fine powder and mix with the nutmeg and ginger powder. Place the grated orange peel, apples, and dried fruit in a large saucepan. Add the spice mix, vinegar, and sugar, and stir in. Heat gently, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Bring the mixture to a boil and simmer for about 40-45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Pour into warm, sterilized jars and seal tightly. Let stand for about 1 month before using. Tips: Stir the chutney more frequently toward the end of the cooking time, as it can stick to the bottom of the pan. The allspice mixture can be used immediately or stored in an airtight, screw-top jar away from light. This chutney is a tangy blend of spices and dried fruit and a great addition to a festive Christmas meal.
