Christmas Cookies: Lübeck Treats

The perfect christmas cookies: lübeck treats recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

for the dough:

  • 230 g Butter
  • 100 g Powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla sugar with bourbon vanilla
  • 250 g Food starch
  • 75 g Flour
  • 30 g Cocoa
  • 0,5 tsp Ginger bread spice

for the filling:

  • 100 g Marzipan
  • 50 g Powdered sugar
  • 1 Pc. Egg yolk

for casting and decoration:

  • 200 g Powdered sugar
  • 6 tbsp Rum
  • Walnut kernels
  1. For the dough, knead all ingredients smoothly, then shape into rolls with a diameter of approx. 2 cm and refrigerate for approx. 30 minutes.
  1. Knead the marzipan, powdered sugar and egg yolk and shape into approx. 50 small balls.
  1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Cut the dough rolls into approx. 1 cm thick slices. Place a marzipan ball on each disc and beat the dough over it, roll a little between your hands so that a ball is formed.
  1. Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes. Then pull from the tray and let cool down a little.
  1. Mix the icing sugar and rum for the topping. Brush the balls with it and press a quartered walnut onto the topping.
