juicy cinnamon rolls with walnuts baked in the style of a rose cake
Please ensure that all ingredients are at room temperature – they must not be too cold or too hot. The dried yeast should be thoroughly mixed in before adding the butter – otherwise the dough may not rise. Put the flour in a bowl and make a small well with a spoon. Add the dried yeast and mix with a little flour. Add the sugar, egg, and salt, and while stirring, slowly add the milk, followed by the butter. Knead into a smooth dough, cover with a tea towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, until it has doubled in size. Roll out into a large rectangle, brush with butter, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and nuts, and roll up from the longer side. Using a very sharp knife, cut into slices about 3 cm thick. Place the individual rolls next to each other in a greased springform pan. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 200°C (top/bottom heat). Bake the buns for about 25-30 minutes until golden brown. If you like, you can top the cinnamon walnut buns with a frosting made from 50g cream cheese, 25g butter, 100g powdered sugar, and perhaps 1-2 tablespoons of milk—this gives the whole thing an extra American touch.
