Cocoa butter is very healthy for the body, both internally and externally. In our article you will learn everything about the effects and possible applications of cocoa butter.
This is how healthy cocoa butter is made
Cocoa butter is best known in the beauty and cosmetics industry. It also gives many chocolate products that certain something. But what does it actually consist of and how is it obtained?
- Cocoa butter is obtained from the beans of the Theobroma cacao tree. The butter is the fat of the bean, which is obtained by pressing the bean. So raw cocoa butter is also vegan.
- To do this, the beans are first separated from the shell and then dried. This can take up to two weeks. Next, the beans are pressed into a paste, filtering out the fat.
- The butter is light yellow in color and has a very creamy consistency. At room temperature it has a relatively solid form. Similar to normal butter, it is excellent for melting and processing in cosmetics or food.
- Cocoa palms only grow in tropical areas such as Africa or South America. Therefore, cocoa products have to travel a long way before we can buy them in our supermarkets. The CO2 emissions are therefore relatively high.
- In addition to the transport route, the type of cultivation also has a major impact on the sustainability of the cocoa butter. Just like with chocolate, you should definitely pay attention to the organic seal when buying cocoa butter. The Fairtrade or Gepa logo should also be present.

Cocoa butter is so healthy
Cocoa butter is good for the soul and body. Butter has these positive and healthy properties:
- Cocoa butter contains stearic and palmitic acid. These unsaturated fatty acids give the skin a lot of moisture and protect it from external influences.
- It is also full of vitamin K, which helps the body with digestion. Applied externally, the vitamin has a calming effect on the skin.
- Vitamin E protects our skin from free radicals, thereby acting as an anti-aging agent. It promotes collagen production and thus counteracts the formation of wrinkles.
- The butter is excellent against dry skin. It is also recommended as care for chapped lips.
- Since the cocoa butter consists of pure vegetable fat, it can prevent stretch marks and pregnancy marks when used externally.
- Chocolate makes you happy – so does cocoa butter. You don’t even have to eat the butter for that. The smell alone has a calming effect.
- Still, cocoa butter is a fat and, like so many things, should only be consumed in moderation.

Cocoa butter bath additive
Especially in autumn and winter there is nothing nicer than a warm bath before going to bed. With this recipe you can make the bathing experience even better and prepare a bath additive yourself:
- For the recipe you need 90 g of cocoa butter, 30 g of almond oil and a silicone praline mold. An ice cube tray will do too. You can also add dried flowers or essential oil if you wish.
- The first thing you need to do is melt the cocoa butter and oil in a water bath.
- Once the two ingredients have combined, you can remove them from the heat and let them cool to body temperature. If you like, you can add a few drops of essential oil.
- Dried flowers are also optional but make a beautiful image. If you later put the praline in the bathtub, the flowers will float in the water. Lavender flowers are particularly good.
- Now put the mass in a praline mold and put it in the fridge to cool down.
- Next time you go swimming, take the praline into the water with you. A bath ball should be sufficient for a full bath.
