Coffee and Tea Can Ruin Your Health: What Drinkers Need to Know

Tea or coffee are the main attributes of home gatherings. It’s also impossible to imagine a morning without a refreshing and invigorating drink.

But are tea and coffee good for the body? Glavred looked into this issue.

What is better to invigorate in the morning: tea or coffee?

Tea has a very good tonic effect. For example, if you make red tea and black pu-erh stronger, they are great for invigorating. It’s definitely more useful than energy drinks, and it lasts longer and is softer than coffee.

Coffee in small amounts does not harm the body. Moreover, in 2017, American scientists conducted a number of studies and found that its regular consumption reduces the risk of death from diseases, including the development of several types of cancer, diabetes, and Parkinson’s disease.

However, we should not forget that large amounts of coffee have a diuretic effect, increase blood pressure and deplete the nervous system, and cause gastritis on an empty stomach.

It turns out that both coffee and tea are great for waking up before work.

How to choose a good tea?

Even without trying the drink, you can tell its quality. When choosing tea, pay attention to:

  • the appearance of the tea leaves – good tea is beautiful: the leaves are whole, the same size, and without dust;
  • color of the tea leaves – should be uniform;
  • the aroma of tea – even unbrewed Chinese tea smells like a tea bag throughout the room;
  • the price criterion always works with high-grade teas, regardless of whether it is oolong or matcha tea.

Who shouldn’t drink coffee?

Without risk to health, you can drink no more than 4 cups of 50-80 ml of coffee per day. However, even adherence to the norm does not guarantee the absence of harm from this drink.

Abuse of this drink is fraught with:

  • addiction;
  • Increased cholesterol levels;
  • problems during pregnancy;
  • depression
  • insomnia
  • tooth decay
  • darkening of the enamel;
  • nervous disorders;
  • fatigue and drowsiness;
  • problems with the gastrointestinal tract and cardiovascular system.

Coffee is contraindicated in case of stomach problems. It increases the acidity of digestive juice and can provoke an exacerbation of ulcers and gastritis.

Pregnant women should not drink coffee. Vanilla can provoke premature birth, and disrupt the formation of the skeleton, internal organs, and nervous system of the fetus. Caffeine penetrates into breast milk and increases the baby’s excitability, so you should give up the drink during breastfeeding.

Who shouldn’t drink tea?

Doctors say that red tea (karkade) has both beneficial and harmful properties. When taken properly, it normalizes metabolism and improves health. Karkade also has a wide range of contraindications: stomach and duodenal ulcers, moderate to severe atherosclerosis, and insomnia.

Green tea contains caffeine, which interferes with the absorption of folic acid. It should not be consumed by patients with diagnosed glaucoma and hypertension. Also, it is advisable to give up a green tea for people with peptic ulcers and duodenal ulcers.
