Coffee when you have a cold – you should keep that in mind
When you have a cold, you should drink a lot, especially hot drinks. However, you should not reach for coffee.
- Coffee has a stimulating effect on circulation due to caffeine. But he has already been attacked by the cold. Therefore, you should not burden him further.
- When you’re sick, you also struggle with dehydration. Because coffee is a diuretic, dehydration is further aggravated. This is one of the reasons why you should stay away from coffee during this time.
- People with sensitive stomachs react to the acids in coffee. If they are downed, this effect can be increased. In the case of a sore throat, the acid can also make itself felt in the throat.
- For these reasons, you’d be better off avoiding the caffeinated beverage while you’re sick. Decaffeinated coffee isn’t necessarily better either.
- Instead, you should rather drink water or tea. Black tea is also not recommended because of its caffeine content. Ginger tea, for example, is more suitable.
- If you don’t want to go without your cup of coffee in the morning or afternoon despite a cold, that shouldn’t be a problem. But don’t overdo it with coffee and listen to your body.
- Although coffee is not a good idea when you have a cold, caffeine also has beneficial effects on the body. Caffeine constricts the blood vessels and has a pain-relieving effect. That is why it is included in some combination preparations for colds.
