The casual couch potato, as a gag at parties or children’s birthdays or just for fun.

Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) with fan/convection oven. Cut a thin slice of potato so it stands firmly. Depending on the size of the potato, make two cuts from the top, roughly halfway down the potato, on the right and left sides, leaving about 1-2 cm (0.4-0.8 in) of space on the sides. Then cut along the cut edges with a knife to remove the center piece. Trim one end of the center piece; this will then represent the backrest. Use toothpicks to insert it into the outer end of the potato at the large notch. Trim off the 1-2 cm (0.4-0.8 in) edges at the ends; these will then represent the armrests. Place on a baking sheet, brush with olive oil, and sprinkle with coarse salt, caraway seeds, and/or paprika to taste. Your imagination is the limit. Anything left over from cutting can, of course, go in the oven. You could even “carve” it into pillows or salad bowls. Bake in the oven for about 35 minutes. Then, to simulate a blanket, you can place a slice of cheese on the hot potato. My kids thought the idea of making potatoes this way was really fun!
