Ingredients for 18 servings:

  • 180 g butter
  • 200 g sugar
  • 260 ml milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 120 g cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 200 g flour
  • 50 g chocolate (dark chocolate), chopped
  • 130 g butter
  • 260 g powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • Food coloring, of your choice, preferably powdered

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 55 minutes

Combine flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking powder, and sugar in a bowl and stir well with a spoon. Then add butter (chop it into small pieces first) and eggs and stir everything with an electric mixer. While stirring, pour in the milk. When the batter is nice and creamy, you can add the dark chocolate to the batter. Stir everything again with a spoon. Now you can set up baking cups and pour in the batter. Once you’re done, you can bake your cupcakes at 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) for 20-25 minutes, or longer or shorter depending on your oven (do the toothpick test). While the cupcakes are baking, you can make the frosting. Cut the butter into small pieces and warm the milk slightly. Combine both ingredients in a bowl, adding the powdered sugar only once the butter has melted somewhat. Once you’ve added the powdered sugar, stir the mixture with a whisk. Color it with food coloring if desired. If the cream is too runny, refrigerate it for a while, or outside in cold weather. And—DON’T PANIC! The frosting will firm up even more! Once the frosting has set and the cupcakes are baked and cooled, you can transfer the frosting to a piping bag or a plastic bag with a hole in it and pipe it onto the cupcakes. You can decorate the cupcakes as desired.
