Do not dispose of parchment paper in paper waste
Baking paper is made of paper, but not exclusively.
- The baking paper has a special coating.
- This prevents baked goods from sticking to it. However, this coating also prevents the baking paper from dissolving in the water.
- This means that baking paper cannot be recycled and therefore does not belong as paper waste.
- Properly dispose of baking paper if you put it in the residual waste after use.
Paper is not always just paper
Baking paper is not the only paper that cannot be disposed of in the paper waste.
- Once the paper is associated with anything else, it cannot be disposed of in the paper waste. It doesn’t always have to be plastic. In addition to the baking paper, there are other papers with a special coating.
- This includes, for example, thermal paper. Receipts are made of this thermal paper and are therefore also disposed of with the residual waste.
- There is also the problem of a coating in pizza and freezer boxes. These boxes are often provided with a metal layer on the inside. Therefore, these papers also belong to the residual waste.
- Many paper handkerchiefs end up in paper waste, which is not where they belong. The reason for this is the contamination with viruses and bacteria. Used paper handkerchiefs also belong in the residual waste, as this is incinerated.
