Do Red Peppers Contain More Vitamin C Than Yellow and Green Ones?

Regardless of their color, peppers are rich in vitamin C. Red peppers, which you also use for our stuffed peppers recipe, are actually particularly rich in this valuable vitamin.

Vitamin C content of peppers in milligrams per 100g:

  • Fresh red peppers: 140mg per 100g
  • Fresh yellow peppers: 120-135mg per 100g
  • Fresh green peppers: 115mg per 100g

The different colors of sweet peppers do not denote different species, but rather the state of ripeness at which the pepper was harvested. When unripe, a pepper is green, then its color changes from yellow to red. The exact vitamin C content of the peppers, therefore, depends on the degree of ripeness.

Botanically speaking, sweet peppers are not pods but berries. They are now available in different variants, in a square, blunt form, or as pointed peppers. In summer, sweet peppers are also available from German production. Large amounts of imports come from the Netherlands and Spain. There are also pointed peppers from Greece, Turkey, and Morocco.
