Dry Strawberries Yourself: You Have These Options

If you want to make fresh strawberries last longer, it is a good idea to dry them. The dried fruits succeed both in the oven and in the microwave or in the dehydrator.

Dry strawberries in the oven

Dried fruits are the ideal snack for in between and are also suitable for muesli, in yogurt, or as a topping in salads. The easiest way is to dry strawberries in the oven. That’s how it’s done:

  1. Preheat the oven to 80 degrees convection.
  2. Wash the strawberries and remove the green.
  3. Cut the fruit into 5 mm slices.
  4. Lay the strawberries on a kitchen towel and dab them lightly.
  5. Spread the strawberry slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, making sure the fruit doesn’t overlap.
  6. Place the tray in the oven, leaving the oven door ajar or inserting a wooden spoon in between to allow moisture to escape.
  7. Let the strawberries dry in the oven for about three to three and a half hours. Turn the slices after every 60 minutes.
  8. Test if the strawberries are dry. When the chips feel crispy, they’re done.

Drying strawberries without an oven

If you don’t have an oven at home, there are alternatives you can use to dry the fruit. With a dehydrator, you get crispy dried fruit, with the microwave the consistency can vary slightly.

  • Dehydrator: Wash and slice the strawberries. Place the strawberries in the dehydrator and let them dry at 60 degrees for five to six hours.
  • Microwave: First heat the sliced ​​strawberries on the highest setting for two minutes. Open the microwave door to allow moisture to escape. Now let the microwave run on the lowest level for 20 to 30 minutes and open the door briefly every three minutes.
