Eating Strawberries from the Strawberry Field

Pick your own strawberries: It’s too tempting to munch on them extensively, even though they haven’t been washed in the field yet. Are you taking in unhealthy substances? There are no organic fields near me.

In principle, all types of fruit and vegetables should be washed before consumption, even if they are organically grown.

The surfaces can not only contain residues of pesticides and pollutants, but also bacteria, faecal germs or mold.

If you want to pick strawberries yourself, it is best to choose a field that is not directly on a busy road. Vehicle emissions, tire abrasion and road wear can cause toxic substances to reach the fields and thus the cultivated fruit.

A few unwashed strawberries won’t do any harm.

But if you want to have a better feeling when snacking, then rinse the berries with some tap water from the drinking bottle before consumption.

And it’s best to ask beforehand whether snacking is allowed!
