The strawberry is not a berry, but a so-called aggregate fruit. The actual fruit of the strawberry is on its surface. A small, yellow-green nut is lined up next to the other on the red so-called fruit base. For this reason, strawberries are considered false fruits.
Raspberries and blackberries, which are classified as aggregate drupes, are also incorrectly referred to as berries. Elderberries, on the other hand, are stone fruits and not berries. Bananas, tomatoes, aubergines, pumpkins, and avocados are berries, even if they don’t have that name and sometimes look completely different from currants or blueberries, for example, which are real berries.
