Elderflower liqueur

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 5 elderflower heads
  • 250 g white sugar
  • 1 lemon(s), untreated
  • 1 orange(s), untreated
  • 1 bottle of vodka or double grain

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Rest period approx. 60 days; Total time approx. 60 days 10 minutes

Harvest the flower heads after a few sunny days; do not wash them, otherwise too much of the aroma will be lost. Cut back as much of the green stems as possible. Make sure there are no “bugs” in the blossoms. Place the blossoms in a wide glass jar. Slice the lemons and oranges and add them to the jar with the sugar. Pour in the alcohol, seal tightly, and place in a sunny spot. Shake the jar occasionally. After about 8 weeks, filter through a linen cloth or coffee filter and bottle. The liqueur is then ready to drink, but it improves with age. I keep a small bottle of each liqueur and enjoy it months later.
