English scones

Spread the love

Ingredients for 10 servings:

  • 250 g flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 40 g sugar
  • 30 g butter, cold
  • 150 ml milk
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 75 g sultanas
  • Butter or
  • sweet cream
  • jam

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes

Preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celsius. Sift the flour and baking powder into a bowl. Add a pinch of salt and the sugar. Mix the butter in small pieces with the flour. Gradually add the milk and knead everything with the sultanas into a dough. The dough should be smooth and firm; add a little more milk or flour if necessary. Let it rest in the refrigerator for 10 minutes. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 2 cm thick. Use a glass to cut out circles 5 to 8 cm in diameter. Place these on a greased baking sheet and let it rest for 5 minutes. Then bake for about 10-12 minutes until golden brown. The circles should roughly double in size. Let cool on a wire rack. Serve warm with butter or lightly sweetened whipped cream and strawberry jam (or raspberry or cherry). My tip: Instead of cream, serve the scones with clotted cream (available in English specialty stores)! Delicious!
