Festive red cabbage

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 2 jars of red cabbage
  • 2 apples
  • 2 onions
  • 100 g lard
  • 250 ml red wine, dry
  • 2 tbsp jelly (cranberry)
  • 2 tbsp vinegar (herb vinegar)
  • 3 small bay leaves
  • Meat broth
  • pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Melt the lard in a large pot. Peel and roughly dice the apples and onions, and add them to the pot. Sauté until the onions are translucent. Add the red cabbage. Stir in the red wine, cranberry jelly, vinegar, and spices. Simmer everything together for at least 1.5 hours. Note: Be careful with the meat broth! It’s best to add it to taste and season at the end of the cooking time.
