Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 3 liters of red wine
  • 3 oranges
  • 3 stalk(s) cinnamon
  • 6 carnations
  • 15 peppercorns
  • 3 chili pepper(s), dried
  • 6 star anise
  • 1 sugar (sugarloaf)
  • 1 piece(s) ginger, thumb-sized
  • 350 ml rum (at least 54%)

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Pour the red wine into a large pot. Squeeze the oranges and add the juice to the red wine. Place the spices in a large spice sieve. Heat the red wine and spices, but do not let them boil. Place the sugarloaf on a pair of fire tongs and place it on top of the pot. Soak the sugarloaf thoroughly with rum and light it. Gradually, using a heatproof ladle, carefully pour the remaining rum over the sugarloaf until it is completely dissolved. Now remove the spices and enjoy the punch while hot.
