Finnish Christmas yeast rolls

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 50 ml milk
  • 2 tsp saffron
  • 50 g yeast
  • 2 eggs
  • 200 ml sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp cardamom
  • 100 ml raisins and a handful for decoration
  • 1 kg flour
  • 200 g butter
  • 1 egg(s)

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes

Joulupullat, makes about 18 pieces

Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm milk and add the crushed saffron. Add the eggs, sugar, salt, cardamom, raisins, and flour and knead everything into a dough. Finally, knead the softened butter into the dough until the dough is nice and smooth. Let it rise until doubled in size. Shape into small round loaves and decorate with raisins. Let it rise again on the baking sheet. Brush with egg and bake in the oven at 225 degrees Celsius for about 8-10 minutes.
