Due to this formation of mucus, however, the absorption of medicines via the intestine can also be impeded. Because the absorption of active ingredients from medicines also takes place largely via the intestine. Therefore, you should not take flaxseed at the same time as medication, but only after an interval of at least two to three hours to ensure optimal absorption of the medication.

Flaxseeds offer many advantages in nutrition: In addition to mucilage, they also contain soluble fiber, omega 3 fatty acids and protein. The ingredients can develop their effect especially in crushed form.

Whole flaxseed should be allowed to swell for a few minutes before consumption or crushed with a mortar. This makes the ingredients in the shell more readily available to the body. Crushed or crushed flaxseed has a stronger effect, but it also spoils faster. There is evidence from research that these have a cancer-preventive effect.

Due to the often high cadmium content of flaxseed, a maximum of two tablespoons of flaxseed should be consumed per day. It is important to drink at least 100 milliliters of water or unsweetened tea per tablespoon. Because if you don’t drink enough, the mucous substances can clog the intestines and lead to constipation. The throat and esophagus can also become blocked if flaxseed is taken without or with very little liquid.
