Freeze Broth – Here’s How

Freezing broth tips

If you want to freeze the clear broth, the right containers are particularly important.

  • If you want to freeze broth that already contains a soup garnish, use containers that hold one or more servings as required.
  • On the other hand, if you freeze clear broth that you later want to use to make a soup, use containers of around 2 liters.
  • On the other hand, if you use the broth to cook sauces or stir-fried vegetables, use smaller portions. Both small containers and ice cube molds are suitable.
  • Note that the containers should be freezer safe.

Proper cooling and shelf life of the broth

Before you can freeze the broth, you should let it cool. If you pay attention to a few things, this also has a positive effect on durability.

  • If the broth stays warm for a long time and has perhaps been seasoned with a used spoon, it forms a breeding ground for bacteria.
  • So that the broth does not turn sour and keeps for a long time, you should let it cool with a beveled lid. If you want it to go even faster, place the pot in cold water.
  • Strain the broth and freeze it once it’s around room temperature.
  • A properly cooled, the clear broth will keep frozen for up to 6 months.
