In the low-carb diet, protein bread is almost a basic food. It is eaten at different times of the day, but not always eaten up at the same time. To store it, you should follow the instructions below, which sometimes differ a little from normal bread storage.

  • If you want to freeze the protein bread, you should first cut it into slices. Pack one or more slices in freezer bags and seal with a clip after squeezing out the air. If necessary, defrost one or more slices again.
  • Do not store the bread in the refrigerator. Here the bread loses moisture. The protein bread is best stored at room temperature.

Store homemade protein bread

The difference between store-bought protein bread is that you choose the ingredients yourself and know exactly what is in them. Most protein bread recipes have a lot of fat as an ingredient. This is desirable in a low-carb diet and also means you are adding a natural preservative at the same time.

  • For example, home-baked protein bread usually has a longer shelf life than store-bought ones.
  • When buying protein bread, you will usually find the addition that the bread should be eaten after 3 to 4 days. So you have to freeze it much earlier if you want to have it longer.
  • The self-baked bread, on the other hand, lasts up to 7 days and does not taste stale as quickly as they bought bread.
  • In addition, you can also store homemade protein bread in the refrigerator and therefore may not have to freeze it at all. It has a higher fat content than store-bought bread.
  • This means that it does not dry out as quickly in cold storage and also stays fresh for longer. Wrap the whole protein bread in aluminum foil if you want to put it in the fridge. There it stays fresh and ready to eat for up to 10 days.
