Freezing bread – you have to consider that
- You can freeze your bread whole or sliced. Tip: if you freeze it in one piece, you avoid possible freezer burn on the individual slices of bread.
- Alternatively, quarter the loaf and freeze each quarter individually wrapped. For better portioning, you should cut the quarters into individual slices beforehand.
- Then put the bread in a freezer bag and squeeze as much air out of the bag as possible. The fresher you freeze your bread, the better it tastes when thawed. However, the bread should no longer be warm when it freezes.
- Individual slices of bread can be kept for about three months, individual quarters, or the whole bread for about six months.
- When you want to defrost the bread, take it out of the freezer and place it in a bread bin for 1-3 hours. Alternatively, you can leave it in the freezer bag.
- To make the bread crispy again after defrosting, brush the crust with a little water and put it in the oven at 125 °C for about five minutes.
