Goat cheese freezes just like any other cheese. In this way, the milk product can be preserved for longer and you always have some on hand when cooking. Before you put the cheese in the freezer bag, consider the disadvantages of the method.
Freeze goat cheese: instructions
Goat cheese can be kept fresh in the freezer for up to two months. To do this, proceed as follows:
- Wrap the goat cheese in cling film. Make sure the foil is snug against the cheese to avoid freezer burn.
- Place the cheese in a freezer bag. Squeeze out the air.
- Write the date on the bag so you know when the cheese should be used up.
Disadvantages of Freezing
Goat cheese can be preserved longer by freezing. Still, there are a few downsides to being aware of:
- After thawing, the cheese changes its texture. If you don’t like grainy cheese, freezing is less suitable for you.
- The longer the goat cheese is frozen, the more its taste changes. If you want to prevent this, use up the cheese within a few weeks.
- The goat cheese absorbs the smell of other foods. So make sure you put it in a tightly sealed bag.
