French Toast Cordon Bleu

Spread the love

Ingredients for 3 servings:

  • 6 slices of toast
  • 3 eggs
  • 6 tbsp milk
  • 6 tbsp cream
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 20 g butter
  • 2 tbsp oil, neutral (e.g. corn oil)
  • 3 slices of cheese (Gouda)
  • 100 g cooked ham

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 45 minutes

Place the slices of toast next to each other on a baking sheet. Crack the eggs into a bowl, whisk with the cream and milk, and season with salt. Pour the egg mixture over the toast and turn the slices over so the bread can fully absorb the egg mixture. Heat the butter and corn oil or another neutral oil in a non-stick pan. This allows the butter to heat more intensely without burning, and preserves the delicate buttery flavor. Fry two slices of toast at a time over high heat until golden brown. Reduce the heat to medium. Flip one slice of toast over a spatula and place a slice of Gouda and a slice of cooked ham on top. Cover with the second slice of toast, ensuring the browned side is facing in. Fry the bottom side of the French Toast Cordon Bleu until golden brown and turn again so the previously top side is also browned. This way, the Gouda has enough time to warm up and melt.
