Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 1 kg potatoes
- 300 g jacket potatoes
- 1 onion(s)
- 1 cup whipped cream
- 4 eggs
- 6 sausages (Mettwurst), smoked
- Salt and pepper, from the mill
- 1 pinch(s) nutmeg, freshly grated
- 1 tsp caraway seeds
- Fat, for the shape
Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes
with smoked Mettwurst
Peel the raw potatoes and the jacket potatoes and coarsely grate them with the onion. Squeeze the raw potatoes well and place them in a bowl with the jacket potatoes and onions. Add the eggs and cream and mix everything well. Season generously with salt, pepper, nutmeg, and caraway seeds (grind the caraway seeds well in a mortar or use caraway powder). Grease a suitable loaf pan and pour in half of the potato mixture, smooth it out, and place the Mettwurst sausages on top. Pour the remaining potato mixture over the mixture and press down lightly. Bake the whole thing in a preheated oven at 180-200°C for about 50 to 55 minutes. Remove the potato cake from the oven, turn it out of the pan, and cut into slices. You can arrange the slices decoratively with a sauce and serve it with a salad. If you have any leftover potato cake, you can fry it the next day in a pan with a little lard and serve it.
