Fruit soup made from dried fruit, grandma's style

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 100 g dried fruit (apples, apricots or plums)
  • 1,250 ml water
  • 3 drops of lemon flavor
  • some cinnamon
  • 20 g cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp water, cold, for mixing
  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar
  • 75 g sugar
  • e.g. macaroons

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Rest time approx. 12 hours; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 12 hours 45 minutes

Wash the fruit and soak it in 1250 ml of water for 12 hours. Then bring the fruit to a boil with the soaking water, lemon flavoring, and cinnamon, and simmer over low heat for 30 minutes until soft. Strain the soup through a sieve, bring back to a boil, and thicken with the cornstarch. Add the vanilla sugar, season to taste, and add macaroons, if desired.
