If you want to eat linseed seedlings, you can easily germinate the seeds at home. You need a few utensils for this. Here we give you instructions and explain about the superfood.
How to germinate flax seeds
To germinate the flax seeds, you need two containers: one with and one without holes. Also, have a spray bottle and a fine cotton cloth ready. If you like it a little prettier, there are also sprouting jars with a mesh lid available in stores.
- Put the desired amount of flaxseed in the bowl without holes. For example, with 2 tablespoons of seeds, add 200 milliliters of water to the container. Now soak the flaxseeds in it for two hours.
- Cover the bottom of the holey bowl with a cotton cloth. It is used to allow excess water to drip off. Place a container under the bowl to catch the liquid that runs out.
- When the flaxseeds are soft, spread them on the cloth. Make sure to apply as thin a layer as possible.
- Place your container in a warm and bright place. The temperature there should be between 15 and 25 degrees. Make sure the direct sunlight is not too strong.
- Provide the flaxseed with some water in the morning and evening. A few squirts from the spray bottle are enough for this.
- Important: The seeds must be moist, but waterlogging must not occur.
- After a few days, the seeds will begin to germinate. Ten to twelve days later, if used correctly, the flaxseeds will have fully germinated.
Flaxseeds are so healthy
Flaxseed sprouts are particularly high in the healthy nutrients found in the seeds.
- Flaxseeds have a whole range of dietary fibers. These support digestion.
- The mucilage in the seeds creates a protective layer in the stomach. This not only prolongs the feeling of satiety but also makes it easier for your body to process pathogens.
- Flaxseeds also contain a lot of omega-3 fatty acids. These are essential for a balanced diet.
- The small seeds provide the body with a whole lot of protein, magnesium, iron, and zinc as well as vitamins B1, B6, and vitamin E.
- They are considered anti-inflammatory and health-promoting for the metabolism and immune system.
